Meet our February
Volunteer of the
Month!

Fran!
1. Any New Year's
resoluntions this year?
New Year's resolution is to foster 10 dogs this year, which is 2 more than
last year. Isn't as many as I would like, but it is what I think I
have the time to do.
2. How did you become a volunteer for Magnificent
Mutts Resuce? I just became a Certified Dog Trainer in May
2009 and was passing by a Petco and saw the Magmutts there. I asked
Linda if she could use my help and the rest is history.
3. Are you named after anyone - or do you know
what you name means? Named after grandmother and mom, and
what better name than after the patron saint of animals.
4. What is the last thing you purchased for
yourself? Cold weather running gear.
5. Do you, or have you ever played a musical instrument?
I have played the piano since I was 7 and the viola since I
was 13. I started out by teaching piano to children in homes.
Unfortunatley, I enjoyed playing with the kids and their dogs more than
teaching them!
6. What is the best advice you could give to
someone looking to adopt a dog? Take your time to find
lifelong commitment. Rescue dogs are just the best there is.
They are so appreciative of that second chance. Providing them with a
daily routine they can look forward to, love and leadership you have a loyal
friend for life.
7. If you could live anywhere in the world, where
would it be? Kanub, Utah. I would love to be able to
work at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and hang out with hundreds of dogs all
day.
8. What is your best training tip? Read
every book you can on Positive Reinforcement training. It really
works!! You will have a great relationship with your dog and they will have
a great deal of respect for you as their leader.
9. Do you like to cook? If so, what
is your signature dish? Persian cucumbers with grape tomatoes, herb
feta cheese, balsamic vinegar and oil. It is addicting.
10. What is the best "happy tail" you have a as a
volunteer so far with Magnificent Mutts? I fostered Abby, a
German Shepherd mix, that came in on transport 1 1/2 years ago. She was
starving, all bit up by fleas, and her skin was bleeding as I brushed her.
Her ears were so infected you could barely touch her. She had been
completely neglected and a stray. She laid on a little carpet I put
down and would barely move off it as if she was not worthy to walk around
the house. She was so happy to receive a meal that it was
heartbreaking. After many visits to the vet, she was ready for
adoption. The only problem was that I couldn't let her go. I
just fell in love with her. She fit in our family perfect and the
other 2 dogs just loved her. She is the German Shepherd in the
picture. Cosmo is the Pyrnees and the little Terrier is Tequila.
Daisy my foster is alo in the picture. My advice to everyone is foster
just 1 dog a year for a great rewarding experience! Magmutts is just
the best!
