April 2018 Volunteer of the Month

Meet Michelle (Mouse) Pietzke

1. How did you get involved with Magnificent Mutts & Meows and what type of volunteer work do you do for the rescue?

I first met Linda when I needed a rescue to take a GSD that has been found as a stray in Chicago. Linda asked me the famous question “Will you foster?”. That was about 2 1/2 years ago.

I handle dogs, especially the large ones, at the adoption events. I’m a foster and transporter, as well. My company loans us my big truck whenever we need to pick up a large amount of supplies. In other words, I do whatever is needed. I must give credit to my other half, Joel Ivy, though. Since I’m an over-the-road truck driver, Joel usually takes care of our fosters including getting them to the vet and events when I’m not available.

2. Are you a cat or dog person?

Although I only have dogs currently, I love cats as well. Unfortunately, my current pack doesn’t prefer cats.

3. Do you have a favorite breed?

Muttastic, of course!

4. Why would you recommend someone foster a cat or dog?

I rescue strays from the streets of Chicago. I see what happens when people try to be breeders. Our shelters are always at maximum capacity. By adopting, you are saving two lives, the one you are taking home and the one that takes it’s place in the foster home or shelter.

5. What kind of work or hobbies do you do outside of rescue?

There’s life outside of rescue? I’m also a truck driver.

6. Do you have a favorite food?

Pasta.

7. What is your favorite song, type of music or band?

I prefer classic rock.

8. What is your most embarrassing moment?

Ummm… I guess it would be when I got sick in my friend’s car right after he had it detailed.

9. Do you have a favorite vacation spot or most favorite vacation memory?

I love to go camping anywhere that allows my dogs.

10. What is your favorite tv show and why?

Chicago Fire is at the top of my list.

11. Feel free to tell us something about yourself you would like others to know.

Hmmm… I currently have 6 dogs (all rescues), 2 of which are hospice fosters (1 from MagMutts, the other is sponsored by the Chicago Wolves hockey team).
