This series is dedicated to helping our community get to know the dedicated and selfless human beings that keep Magnificent Mutts Rescue running.
Meet Donna!
1) How long have you been with Magnificent Mutts?
Just over a year.
2) As a volunteer, what do you do for Magnificent Mutts?
I foster pups and birds, at events I work with my fosters and meet with their adopters. Once my babies are with their new family, I help handle other rescues, chat with prospective adopters and basically whatever is needed.
3) What is your favorite or most memorable MM experience or story?
Landon/Nesta. ‘He’ was with us almost 3 weeks before we realized Landon was a she. Sweet girl, well behaved and smart! She was with us almost 2 months and we were beginning to think she was here to stay. She was adopted by a very nice couple, unfortunately, it didn’t work out with their senior dog, so she came back to us as Nesta. She had a new appointment within days and it turned out, her new family was interested in her as Landon, however, the timing was off. They thought Nesta was a litter mate of Landon and were thrilled when they realized it was actually Landon. What’s meant to be will find a way!!!
4) What is your favorite dog breed or dog type?
A year ago I would have said Bichon, Border Collie or Lab. After caring for and interacting with so many, I have so many favorites, though I do have a soft spot for little and fluffy
5) What advice would you give potential fosters?
Do it! It’s not as hard as you think to let them go when you see them click with their new family, and there will always be more in need. The feeling you get when you take a scared little being and show them they can trust you enough that they actually come out of their shell is amazing!
6) What advice would you give adopters?
Give your baby time and space. Don’t rush them, they will love you for it!
7) What are your hobbies or what do you like to do for fun?
Car shows and butterflies! I have a 2004 Thunderbird that I love to show off and a butterfly garden that attracts so many tiny beings. I raise Monarchs and Black Swallowtails from egg to butterfly. It’s amazing.
