This series is dedicated to helping our community get to know the dedicated and selfless human beings that keep Magnificent Mutts Rescue running.

Meet Kris Santoyo!

Kris is our resident social media guru! She is a foster turned Facebook manager and we would be lost without her. She usually prefers to be behind the scenes but this month we’re brining her front stage as our Someone You Should Know!

1) How long have you been with Magnificent Mutts?

I adopted Duke, a Great Dane from Mag Mutts in 2009, then in 2010 I decided to volunteer throughout the Christmas Holiday to give back to the rescue.  I have been volunteering ever since.

2) As a volunteer, what do you do for Magnificent Mutts?

I used to foster, and be a handler at events.  Now, I’m an Admin on our main Facebook page and Alumni Facebook Group. I usually help coordinate for special events, and behind the scenes stuff.  One day, I want to go back to fostering again.

3) What is your favorite or most memorable Magnificent Mutts experience or story?

I have so many memories over the years of the rescues coming in from over seas, fundraising events like bowling, garage sales, Run4Paws 5k, meeting great people, lots of laughs and tears, and making long time friends.

4)  What is your favorite dog breed or dog type?

Before I started in rescue, I would say Labs and Great Danes.  After fostering so many different breeds, and Mutts, I’ve learned to appreciate them all, even the little lap dogs.

5) What advice would you give potential fosters?

Submit updates on your fosters and photos often.  You are your fosters best advocate.  Highlight all the positive things and set them up for success.

6) What advice would you give adopters?

Give them time to settle in, give them a safe spot and crate them.  I never used to crate my pets, but over the years of fostering I’ve realized the safety and the positives of crating for both dog and owner.

7) What are your hobbies or what do you like to do for fun?

I like to paint, do crafts, and read a good book, besides spending time with family and friends.  Otherwise I’m waiting to see what dogs are arriving into rescue, and which cuties got adopted.

8) Tell us your favorites…

TV show or movie: Chicago PD and I’m still watching Grey’s Anatomy (’til the end!)

Food:  I love seafood and Mexican food.

Sport and/or sports team: Not big into sports, just the parties that come with it!
